In hockey, powerful slap shots, perfectly executed assists and smooth goals that slip right through the goaltender’s legs are a fine art. And of course, so are painted and drawn depictions of our most legendary hockey icons on canvas. Today’s WagJag is for sports fiends and art buffs alike: $90 for an authentic Wendel Clark autographed painting from Murray Henderson Fine Art, regularly valued at $250.
Murray Henderson’s mixed media painting of our beloved Maple Leafs’ captain captures the star in full colour – the image depicts the famous scuffle between him and Los Angelos Kings player Marty McSorley during the 1993 Western Conference finals. It’s a moment any die hard “be-leaf-er” will remember – just after McSorley delivered a fierce body checked Doug Gilmore, Clark came to his rescue by going after McSorley. Both players fought it out on the ice until the refs gained control again.
This painting portrays a famous scene in Leafs history – and it’s also had its own time in the spotlight. The print was featured on CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada during Scott Morrison’s interview with Wendel Clark the night his jersey was retired.
If you need more pictures of puck in your art collection, visit Murray’s studio and you’ll find many pieces that encompass more of hockey’s most rousing moments. He has a great collection of hockey-mania media, including an extensive Leafs collection. His work also includes golf, fishing and NASCAR themes and has been featured in Canada, the U.S., Scotland, England, Ireland, Sweden, South Africa and Australia.
