Description
Planning an intimate dinner at home is a thoughtful idea, but if you lack the necessary culinary prowess, keep in mind that significant others usually don't buy the old "Hot Pockets are a known aphrodisiac" excuse. Plan a hot date that doesn't involve the microwave with today's WagJag: for $20, you get $40 to spend on food and drink at McLean's Restaurant. Please note that while this voucher is valid on alcohol, each table must order a minimum of one food item.
Executive Chef Eddie Szasz's dinner menu combines West Coast cuisine with a European touch. Trade shucking tips over the daily oyster selection, or opt for steamed shellfish with mussels in white wine, pancetta, garlic and herbs ($15). Mains include cioppino ($24), steelhead trout with butternut squash puree and sage gnocchi ($24), and a Paradise Valley pork chop fit for any former NHLer ($24). For a more casual-cozy bite, hunker down in the lounge for some sports action, and a menu of nibbles that includes duck confit poutine ($10), grilled Humboldt squid ($12), and mac n' cheese with creamy applewood-smoked cheddar ($9).
Luxurious libations are on offer, like the refreshing and nutrient-rich beet mojito, along with a short list of specialty martinis. The beer taps flow, and wines can be had by the glass, half-litre, or bottle (but not by the box). Located in Gastown, McLean's also features brunch and lunch menus, and a patio that extends onto Water St. in the warm-weather months.
